I hate to post a pseudo /r/ thread, but I figure that you guys will probably know about explosions more than anybody, so here we are:

What’s the name for this type of sound?

3m48s for the link, if it doesn’t auto pop to the correct noise. I’ve heard this sort of sound dozens of times and it’s clearly some sort of explosion, but the actual crack is so much more distinct. What type of phenomenon creates this sort of sound as opposed to the classic “boom” explosion?

Also, god damn did it ever take me a long time to find an example of this sound. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is trying to google search a sound effect that you don’t know the name of? christ.
