Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into Orange liquor store

An SUV slammed into the front of a liquor store in Orange on Monday evening, Jan. 18, and its driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The collision happened at 7:55 p.m. Orange Tree Liquor, at the corner of Glassell Street and Lincoln Avenue, Orange Police Sgt. Phil McMullin said. A gray Jeep that had been in the business’s parking lot accelerated into the building, shattering a set of glass doors and knocking them loose from their hinges.

Firefighters inspected the damage, McMullin said.

“It’s nothing structural that would force them to close, but they will have to board up the broken glass,” he said.

The driver, a 71-year-old Orange man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI alcohol.

No injuries were reported in the crash, which was under investigation Monday evening, McMullin said.
