DIY concrete staining and sealing old basement floors.

I have some old concrete, there is places that are warn out a bit on the surface, different staining from over the years. Hoping just to get an acceptable finish.

So far I have washed the floor good. put Ironite fertilizer on (1 bag for about 400 sq feet) and that left a bit of black, then we tried to take some dark grout, watered it down and put some magnesium dioxide in there and mopped it on, we got a nice black colour but if I take a stiff sponge and wipe it hard it seems to mostly come off..

I have tested some solvent based sealer on the grout based mixture and it seems to absorb the residue and Harden. I am not sure if this is going to interfere with the bond of the acrylic sealer.

Trouble is I think the concrete surface isn’t in the best shape and some places have had different stuff on them. We really would, if possible, like to avoid to much grinding and or acid but would consider it to get this job behind us.

I was almost thinking of just taking some darker acrylic paint and watering that down and going over everything, maybe a light wash, and then sealing that with the solvent based acylic sealer or a water based.

Any tips on how to get this project buttoned up ? we are quite sick of it
