Already managed to damage my dry wall with PC monitor mount and I want to add heavy speakers on top of that! Should I add a wood/metal structure to supports the 3?
So, I want to build my battle/music station https://i.imgur.com/yrvAotM.png but I have to fight against a shitty dry wall first.
I’ve already lost a battle. https://i.imgur.com/am11mg0.jpg
The things I want to install on the wall are:
- 1 very large PC monitor, Samsung cf791, 31.8″ x 14.3″ x 6.6” (81cm x 36cm x 17cm), 13.4 lbs (6 kg)
- 2 fairly big speakers Yamaha HS7, 8.3″ x 13.1″ x 11.2″ (21cm x 33cm x 28cm), 18.1 lbs (8.2kg)
To spice things up, I want the monitor on my Hftek HF19DW arm so I can switch between “PC mode” and “TV mode” by moving it closer to my sofa by 24″ (60cm).
I did manage to mount the screen on the arm and it worked for a while. Here’s the “PC mode”, it can also go down for when I’m not using a laptop: https://imgur.com/rcjZhHu.jpg. And the “TV mode”: https://i.imgur.com/69os3lO.png
I was managing to move the screen between the two position with caution on not pulling the screws, but the problem is I used simple plastic screw anchors, and they started to come out. As I wanted to fix that before moving on to speakers installation, I decide to change the screw anchors to the metallic “Molly” kind, so I did new holes to install it. But first time I tried to put the screen in TV mode again, the wall came with it: https://i.imgur.com/am11mg0.jpg
Thanks to that mess, I can now explore the wall: https://i.imgur.com/erjzuCi.jpg It seems like it’s nothing but plaster, there’s like a first plaster layer of 0.6” (1.5 cm) between two thin carton layers and then nothing but plaster for 2.4″ more. The hole I’ve drilled is 3” (7.5 cm) and I’m scared to go further and end up in my neighbor’s apartment. So now I see the Molly anchors were useless because there was no place to deploy their “arms”.
Here’s a zoomed out view with my newly built PC (that’s is only missing the damn screen), the monitor and speakers are represented: https://i.imgur.com/Gh37cKf.png
How do you recommend I make it happen?
Do you think I can find studs in there?
Should I add some kind of metallic or wooden structure lying on the floor/platform and fixed to the wall/wardrobe in order to support the weight?
