Yacht Rock God Michael McDonald Sailing Away From $3.9M Maui Property
Former Doobie Brothers vocalist Michael McDonald is singing farewell to his harmonious Hawaii home.
For $3.9 million, the tropical retreat in Lahaina, HI, includes a main house, a two-bedroom cottage, a workshop, and a storage building.
The two-acre spread is two lots combined “to ensure plenty of space and privacy,” according to the listing. The next owner could decide to keep one lot and sell the other if they so wished.
The grounds include mature plantings, including coconut palms, mango trees, and plumeria. It features views of the West Maui Mountains and the ocean.
The main house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master suite and office are located in a separate wing.
Cherrywood floors lead out to a plantation-style covered lanai and 70-foot lap pool.
Inside, the chef’s kitchen is equipped with granite counters, maple cabinets, and a gas cooktop. The space includes a formal dining room and living room. But we’re guessing everyone will spend the bulk of their time relaxing on the lanai.
A two-bedroom cottage with its own driveway is located at the top of the property, also boasting views from a large lanai.
Attached to the cottage is a small storage building. Also on the property is a workshop finished with travertine floors.
The home is located close to historic Lahaina Town and a short drive to Launiupoko Beach Park.
“This has been a cherished home and has a great vibe,” the listing notes.
McDonald has been shedding his Hawaii holdings of late. In 2017, Variety reported that he let go of a small cottage, also in Lahaina, for just over $1 million. The performer reportedly owns homes in Santa Barbara, CA, and in Nashville, TN.
Now 67, the singer-songwriter topped the charts multiple times with the Doobie Brothers and as a solo artist. Known as the godfather of yacht rock, he’s earned five Grammys and collaborated with artists such as Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, and Kenny Loggins.
