Hit and run victim dies, search for suspect continues
DES MOINES, Iowa — A man injured in the October 9th hit and run crash has died, the investigation and search for the suspect remains open.
On October 9th around 7:40 p.m. the Des Moines Police Department was called on a report of pedestrians struck by a vehicle. Responders arrived to find two people, a 42-year-old male and 45-year-old male, unconscious in the roadway.
A third person was also identified with a minor foot injury. Medics transported the two unconscious men to the hospital, one in critical condition and the other in serious condition.
The 42-year-old male, Justin Lee Romaine, died October 25th from his injuries.
The vehicle involved in the crash was later identified as a gray 2007 Honda Odyssey. Renato Virves, 32, has been identified as the owner of the vehicle but efforts to locate him have been unsuccessful.
This is the 14th traffic-related fatality of 2024.
