Iowa lawmaker granted $23k judgement after lawsuit filed by daughter, ex-wife is dismissed

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IOWA — State Senator Adrian Dickey, a Packwood Republican, has been granted a $23,000 judgement in Jefferson County after a lawsuit filed by his daughter, ex-wife and her current husband was voluntarily dismissed.

Dickey’s daughter, Korynn Husted, and her mother and stepfather – Shawna and Allen Husted – filed a lawsuit last summer accusing Dickey of forging Korynn’s signature to place a lien on her vehicle. Dickey argued that the lien wasn’t illegal and that Korynn had agreed to it when he purchased a car for her. Korynn claimed to be unaware of the lien until the car was totaled in an accident and insurers refused to pay her for damages.

The amount of money in question – $23,686.75 – was placed in escrow while the lawsuit was settled. Earlier this year, the Husted’s filed a voluntary dismissal of their claims and ended their defense of their lawsuit. Earlier this month the matter officially came to a close with a judge formally releasing the money from escrow to Dickey.

Korynn Husted was also ordered to pay her father $1.00 in damages for defamation.
