Woman charged with attempted murder in Webster County shooting
WEBSTER COUNTY, Iowa — An attempted murder charge has been filed against a Webster County woman in connection with a shooting that happened last week in Moorland.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Cheyanne Guthrie has been arrested and is charged with attempted murder in the case. She is being held in the Webster County Jail on a bond of $250,000.
The WCSO began investigating the incident after being contacted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office on September 26th about a shooting victim who was being treated at a Mason City hospital. Not long after speaking with the CGCSO deputy, Webster County officials became aware of a possible shooting in the town of Moorland.
WCSO personnel responded to an address in the 600 block of Front Street in Moorland and secured the scene. They interviewed Cheyanne Guthrie and two males who were in the residence. Evidence was gathered after obtaining a search warrant, and cellular devices, ammunition, and a firearm were seized.
After further investigation, the WCSO determined the victim drove to the scene around 8:30 a.m. on September 26th and he and Guthrie got into an argument. During the argument, Guthrie displayed a handgun and shot him through the driver’s door, with the bullet hitting him in the torso. The victim was driven to the hospital in Mason City by personal vehicle where he was treated and released.
The criminal complaint in the case says before shooting the victim with a Rock Island .38 Special Revolver, Guthrie told him she was going to kill him and herself.
Guthrie’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 10th.
