Iowa nonprofit hosts celebration for those pursuing addiction recovery
DES MOINES, Iowa — On Saturday, Kingdom Living Iowa hosted a festival celebrating families and those who have recovered from addiction.
Kingdom Living Iowa is a nonprofit organization that provides resources, transitional housing, and community support to those pursuing sober living. They are currently housing 171 residents and since opening their doors in 2016, have helped 668 people.
Most of their residents come to them from incarceration, some come from treatment centers or were homeless. Kingdom Living requires everyone to complete the twelve-step recovery process and maintain employment.
Kingdom Recovery focuses on providing a safe and structured environment for people to maintain sobriety. They hope that by unifying families, and building healthy relationships and friendships, they can help people be productive members of society.
Saturday’s festival celebrated the program and the families and individuals it has helped. The celebration provided fun activities like bounce houses, family games, and kickball. They also had a recognition and graduation ceremony. Finally, a luminary ceremony was held for those who did not win their battle with addiction.
