Weather: A cool August weekend, then rain chances
We head into a cool weekend, during a time of year when the average high in Des Moines is 85 degrees … an early taste of fall. Temperatures do begin to warm up again by the middle of the work week.
In addition to the cool temps, dewpoints have dropped into the 40s in some areas … very dry for this time of year. Dewpoints look to get back into the 60s by midweek as well.
We have two rain chances ahead, one on Monday (as seen below) and one on Thursday, both occurring as upper-level disturbances move over the state.
Severe chances remain very low this week, and only showers and thunderstorms of the non-dramatic variety are expected on Monday and Thursday.
The European computer model is predicting that some areas of the state could receive over two inches of rain through Thursday night.
Our temperature trend will ramp up into the middle and end of the week, and the 6-to-10 and 8-to-14-day outlooks move us into above-average high temperatures by the middle of the month and the end of the Iowa State Fair.
