Spencer residents advised to have flood-affected gas, electrical equipment evaluated or replaced
SPENCER, Iowa — The City of Spencer recommends citizens have their gas and electrical equipment evaluated.
According to a post from the city, it is unsafe to continue to use gas and electrical equipment that has been affected by flood waters.
If you have service equipment or electrical panels that have been affected by flood water, and you have electricity at your property, the city said that you should contact SMU at 712-580-5800 to have your power disconnected. Once your electrical has been inspected and replaced as needed, it should be safe to have your power restored.
Additionally, the city recommends residents reach out to Black Hills Energy at 888-890-5554 to have their gas lines and equipment inspected and replaced.
In other news out of Spencer, Tyson Foods will be handing out meals at the North Grand Mall’s south parking lot at 11 a.m.
Stool and shower use should also be accessible in the city, and all water use should be usable as of midnight.
In Spencer, they have condensed their shelter location down to just the Spencer Events Center, and transportation to the shelter is provided by ILCC.
Local organizations are making rounds through the city to investigate structures, electrical, gas, and other utilities within the city.
A tetanus clinic is also open at the Spencer Hospital and it is recommended you stop in for one if you have not had your shot updated within the last 5 years.
