Swiss shoemaker to launch US expansion from 485 Madison
Jack Resnick & Sons announced today that Swiss shoemaker brand Le Majordome will establish its first U.S. retail location at 485 Madison Avenue in the Plaza District.
Le Majordome, which currently operates three retail stores in Switzerland, offers premium custom and seasonal ready-to-wear shoes for men. Its new Manhattan flagship store is scheduled to open in November. The brand will join a world-class retail lineup that includes iconic Italian eatery Fresco by Scotto and T-Mobile.
“We are excited that Le Majordome has selected 485 Madison Avenue to debut its first retail store in the United States,” said Jonathan Resnick, President of Jack Resnick & Sons. “This transaction demonstrates Manhattan’s continued retail and commercial office recovery, as well as Madison Avenue’s strong allure to high end international brands.”
Le Majordome was represented by Eric Gelber and Jordan Kaplan of CBRE. Jack Resnick & Sons was represented in-house by Managing Director Adam Rappaport. Asking rent was $300 per square foot.
“Le Majordome wanted its first foray in the U.S. to be in one of New York City’s most iconic business locations,” Kaplan said. “Midtown Manhattan’s Madison Avenue which has traditionally been home to major corporate office headquarters and luxury retailers is a perfect match to jump start a global expansion and brand recognition campaign. The new store at 485 Madison will honor Le Majordome’s traditional shoe-making craftsmanship in a modern and elegant setting.”
485 Madison Avenue is also home to office tenants such as Signature Bank, Janover and Pembrook Capital.
Built in 1929 and designed by architect J.E.R. Carpenter, 485 Madison Avenue was acquired by Jack Resnick & Sons in 1976. The distinctive 25-story building features a modern, double-height, stone lobby with soaring, wrap-around wood panels, and an original, Henry Moore bronze sculpture. The property has achieved Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system, as well as WiredScore Gold and EnergyStar certifications.
