Over the last six months Reddit has seen a massive sustained attack from spambots. This is a site wide issue that is affecting us at r/DIY. Reddit’s administrators have been aware of the problem for months and have failed to address it in any meaningful way, despite the pleas of moderators from all over Reddit. Moderators have not been provided with any tools to deal with this, in fact the Admins have made reporting harder and more time consuming.

We are unpaid volunteers and are now being expected to spend hours each day cleaning up the mess. As long as we keep taking up the slack, the administrators will continue to delay action. This is not something we can keep doing.

We have reached breaking point.

Any account suspected of spamming will now be instantly banned.

There will be no warning. We will not check your post history first to see if you are human. We will not wait to see if there is a pattern of offending. And we will not be considering any ban appeals.

Some of you will be caught up in this. This in not something we want, we simply do not have the time or resources to spend on this.

If you have been banned, feel free to make your feeling known to the Reddit admins, in particular u/redtaboo, u/sodypop and u/Chtorrr.

Finally an apology to anyone caught up in this. This is not how we want to run the sub. And it is not how Reddit should be run.
