Northridge woman arraigned for allegedly filing false car theft claim when husband used car in police chase
A Northridge woman was arraigned Monday, Nov. 2 on felony charges of fraud for reporting that her car had been stolen despite that fact that police found her husband with it after a high-speed pursuit.
Glory Ghosh, 24, was charged last month with three counts of insurance fraud, according to a criminal complaint.
In January 2019, Ghosh claimed to her insurance company that her car had been stolen.
“In her claim, Ghosh stated she was at a nightclub in Costa Mesa for a birthday party and after leaving with an unidentified male, she exited her 2012 Audi Q5 and he stole her vehicle,” the California Department of Insurance said in a Monday statement. Ghosh filed the claim the day after the alleged theft.
“Ghosh later changed her story and claimed the vehicle was taken from the club’s valet parking lot,” the statement reads.
After the alleged theft, the car was in a high-speed pursuit throughout Orange County with the California Highway Patrol, the state department said. Officers stopped following the car when it was traveling upwards of 120 miles per hour.
They later later found the car stopped at an intersection and it took off again but the driver was later stopped. He was discovered to be Ghosh’s husband, 27-year-old Kumar Harsh of Norwalk.
He was arrested on suspicion of reckless evading and driving on a suspended license.
“Ghosh’s fraudulent actions were likely made in an attempt to avoid any criminal charges for her husband,” the state insurance department said.
Ghosh surrendered herself to authorities after they issued a warrant for her.
Court records show Ghosh was arraigned Monday but released and report to court at a later time.
