Suspect in fatal shooting in Orange charged with murder

A 30-year-old man was charged with murder Monday, Aug. 31 as a suspect in a possibly gang-related shooting in Orange.

Luis Albert De Paz Flores was charged with murder, along with a special circumstance allegation of gang activity.

He was also faces felony counts of unlawful possession of an assault weapon and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, with sentencing enhancements for the discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury and gang activity.

Flores is accused of killing 26-year-old Marco Huerta Torres of Orange. He was arrested Thursday, and was being held on $1.1 million bail as of Monday.

Investigators believe the victim was shot Aug. 6 near the 1500 block of East Locust Avenue, police said. His friends were trying to take him to a hospital when they were involved in a traffic collision near Chapman Avenue and Tustin Street at about 11:17 p.m.

No one was injured in the crash, but first-responders saw Torres had been wounded. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he died, Orange police Lt. Jennifer Amat said.

No further information was disclosed about what may have prompted the shooting.

Flores’ arraignment Monday was rescheduled for Sept. 21 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
