GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND! 👋

Foggy mornings turn into sunny days for the majority of this week, with highs in the upper 40s—aaaaaand don’t you think that’s perfect weather to go out and enjoy the Mercury‘s HOLIDAY DRINK WEEK (happening right now)? Picture it: Gorgeous, creative, holiday-inspired cocktails concocted by the best bartenders in Portland, and they’re only $8 each! But don’t dilly or dally because the fun ends this coming Sunday! And now, let’s dilly dally over some WOOZY NEWSY!

IN LOCAL NEWS:

• Athletes at David Douglas High School have been on the receiving end of extremely shitty racist name-calling from opposing teams during their football games—and even worse, those schools (as well as the Oregon School Activities Association) are doing very little to hold these racist shitheads responsible. Abe Asher has the illuminating and infuriating report.

Athletes at David Douglas High reported racial slurs hurled at them by opponents during games earlier this year. Families and coaches say Oregon has no meaningful solutions for accountability.

• The body of a missing Clackamas County woman,  Susan “Phoenix” Lane-Fournier, has been located by police after it was reported that she and her two dogs left for a hike in the Mount Hood National Forest and never returned—but now, her husband has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Michel Fournier has been arrested and charged with second degree murder without bail, just about a month after his wife had petitioned him for a divorce. Neighbors had been raising concerns for months over suspected domestic violence.

• More trouble for Intel as the chip-making company’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, has unexpectedly stepped down from his role. Unable to compete with the AI boom, Intel’s stock—which was already on the downslide—fell an addition 61 percent during Gelsinger’s tenure.

• All 21 schools in the Greater Albany school district will remain closed after a breakdown in bargaining between educators and the school board, as workers continue their nearly three week-long strike. Educators say that a tentative deal had been reached this weekend, and they were ready to call off the strike, but the board refused to agree to standard return-to-work terms and so the strike goes on.

• In case you haven’t noticed… it’s DECEMBER (AKA the busiest, funnest month of the year) and our EverOut crew has tracked down the best and cheeriest events for you to sample all damn month long!

It’s time for another super fun POP QUIZ PDX! This week’s trivia quiz includes: local grave robbers, yet another sex scandal, and your mom has VERY specific opinions about Thanksgiving dinner! See how well YOU score!

IN NATIONAL/WORLD NEWS:

• While previously stating he wouldn’t do it, President Biden issued a full and unconditional pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, yesterday, who had been convicted of a gun charge and tax evasion. The president stated that the younger Biden was “selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted” due to political pressure on prosecutors from Trumpers. (Expect those immoral dingbats to scream their heads off about the supposed unfairness of the situation, while still drinking deeply from the bottomless well of their chief turd’s endless corruption.)

Breaking news: President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter, who was found guilty of gun-related charges in Delaware and pleaded guilty to tax evasion in California. He said “raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice.”

• Meanwhile the incoming orange turd says he plans on replacing FBI director Christopher Wray (who was granted a 10-year appointment from Trump back in 2017) with completely unqualified loyalist Kash Patel, who has vowed to fire the agency’s top leadership and drastically reshape its mission. And according to a quote Patel made on a podcast last year, this “reshaping” includes hunting down “conspirators not just in government, but in the media.” (Waaaaitasecond… this guy couldn’t be talking about me, could he? 😇)

• California Governor Gavin Newsom has called on state legislators to team up and put protections in place for progressive policies before Trump takes office in January. This includes protecting California’s immigrant population, building a backup disaster relief fund (for when Trump refuses to do his job), and preserving their status as an abortion sanctuary state.

• Singer Elton John announced that he has effectively lost his sight after an infection left him blind in his right eye, and adding that his vision in his left is “not the greatest.” It’s unclear whether he’ll be able to record any music in the future.

• And finally… after a few days of rest and relaxation, I’m back and ready to come at my enemies like this ninja penguin.
