Zora Bar & Rooftop foreclosure sale sees no bids, bank takes back the property
DES MOINES, Iowa — Zora Bar & Rooftop was set to be auctioned on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Polk County Justice Center in downtown Des Moines.
The building is currently owned by Community First Credit Union, and the property received no bids at the approximate judgment just north of $3.4 million. With no bids placed at the auction held by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the asset stays under the ownership of the bank.
Zora Bar & Rooftop has been closed for around a year and a half after being denied a liquor license by the city in 2023.
The property was developed by Edwin Allen back in 2020, and since then the property has been riddled with complaints and violence.
In November of 2022 a 29-year-old man died after being shot in the head outside of the bar. And more shots were fired in a parking lot overnight in the summer of 2023. Noise complaints were frequent from areas around the property, complaining about music playing loudly until 2 a.m. during weekdays.
