Man arrested on weapons, drug charges after police respond to report of shooting in Oakridge neighborhood
DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was arrested Thursday night after Des Moines police responded to a report of gunfire heard in the 900 block of Oakridge Drive just before 10:30 p.m.
As officers were responding, multiple calls to 911 came in reporting a large fight and multiple people shooting within the apartment complex in the Oakridge Neighborhood, according to Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department.
When officers arrived at the complex, they found a large and unruly crowd. While investigating, officers saw 34-year-old Dewayne Robinson had a handgun tucked into his waistband. Robinson was taken into custody and officers seized the gun. Sgt. Parizek said it was loaded with an extended ammunition magazine.
Robinson is charged with Persons Ineligible To Carry Dangerous Weapons, Possession Of A Controlled Substance – Marijuana, 3rd Or Subsequent Offense, and Interference With Official Acts. He is being held in the Polk County Jail.
As officers continued to investigate the report of shots fired, they located another gun abandoned on the ground.
No injuries were reported from the incident but damage was discovered to an apartment and a fence.
The incident remains under investigation.
