Police Officer on vacation to sample as much Iowa State Fair food as possible
DES MOINES, Iowa — For Urbandale Police Officer, Randy Peterson, law enforcement work takes a holiday during the Iowa State Fair.
He’s on vacation.
Peterson invites friends, family, his church group, his pastors or anyone he can find to head to the Iowa State Fair, on a food expedition.
We share the food, and don’t mind us all putting our hands on the food.
He samples things like Loaded Cheesy Potatoes in a bucket. Also he tastes the Cheeseburger Funnel Cake, and Lemon Bites.
“Lemon Donut Bites was good, but I’m not a big lemon fan,” said Peterson. “It was over the top and good cake dough and powdered sugar.”
He gets asked by friends and people he meets for food recommendations.
“A lot of my friends and everything reach out to me, they want to know where this is at, and what I think about this and when I’m out and about at the fair,” said Peterson. “I see my friends and ‘hey what new food did you try’ and where is this at?”
He doesn’t mind sharing what he’s learned in this food research.
“A few that must have one of them is the Watermelon in a up, and Pork Chop on a Stick,” said Peterson.
He grew up on Des Moines’ east side, so he’s been coming here most of his life. He’s been a detective on the Urbandale Police, and after the State Fair, he’s returning to regular patrol duties.
