ANKENY, Iowa — 17-year-old Liliana Munguía was reported missing from Bapchule, Arizona on the Gila River Indian Community on August 6.

According to the Gila River Police Department, the missing teen was found in Ankeny on August 16 in the early evening. 20-year-old Malachi Reed was taken into custody by the FBI with charges pending. The police says Munguía had traveled to Iowa to meet a 20-year-old man she was communicating with online.

“The quick response and coordinated efforts of all agencies involved reaffirm our mutual commitment to addressing the nationwide Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons epidemic. I am grateful for my staff and our partner agencies for their dedication in locating and bringing Liliana home safely,” said Chief Jesse Crabtree.

The department thanked several Iowa agencies for the assistance to the safe recovery of Liliana: FBI Omaha Field Office Des Moines Resident Agency, the Ankeny Police Department, the Des Moines Police Department, the Clive Police Department and the Iowa State Gang Task Force.
