Townhall event on homelessness Wednesday night at DMACC Urban Campus
DES MOINES, Iowa – Residents of the River Bend neighborhood have organized a townhall event Wednesday night to discuss a proposed City of Des Moines ordinance targeting the homeless that bans sleeping in public spaces.
The Community Townhall on Homelessness is being held at DMACC’s Urban Campus at 1144 7th St. in Des Moines from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Community members are invited to participate in an open conversation with neighbors and community organizations that work with Des Moines’ homeless residents.
There will also be time to ask questions about the proposed ordinance.
Organizers have also invited the Des Moines City Council to attend the townhall. The council voted to approve the proposal on July 22nd, and it passed in a second reading on August 5th as well. It won’t take effect unless city council members pass it a third time.
