Spencer Lee wrestles his way to silver medal at Paris Olympics
PARIS, FRANCE — Spencer Lee has added a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics to his three NCAA championships won as a Hawkeye wrestler.
Lee, who wrestled collegiately for Tom Brands at Iowa, faced Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the Men’s Freestyle Final at 57kg on Friday evening in Paris – around 1pm Iowa time – at the Champ-de-Mars Arena.
Lee fell 4-2 to Higuchi in the final, giving up the winning points in the final seconds as he shot to score.
Lee was born in Colorado but grew up in Pennsylvania – though he chose Iowa over Penn State after high school. He wrestled for the Hawkeyes from 2018-2023, winning three NCAA titles at 125 lbs. along with three Big Ten championships.
