Kyle Ricke found guilty of first-degree murder in death of Algona officer

DICKINSON COUNTY, Iowa — A Dickinson County jury found Kyle Ricke guilty of the first-degree murder of Algona police officer Kevin Cram.

In September 2023 Officer Cram attempted to serve Ricke with an arrest warrant in connection to a harassment case when Ricke shot and killed him. Ricke fled the state and was later caught in Minnesota.

On Monday a jury was seated and for the past several days they’ve watched body camera footage as well as listened to testimony from investigators and experts, those who knew Officer Cram, and members of Ricke’s family.

After only an hour of deliberation on Thursday the jury found Ricke guilty of first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
