Forecast: A Nice Sunday, Storms This Week

Dewpoints in the 50’s and highs only in the 70’s will make for great weather tonight through Monday morning. Expected high temperatures are below:

A disturbance moving over the state will give us small storm chances starting Monday afternoon, but better chances look to move in starting early on Tuesday.

The SPC (above) has included Iowa in their Tuesday severe weather risk outlook, with two rounds of storms looking likely. One will come as a warm front and upper level disturbance move across Iowa during the early morning hours (below). A second will come later in the day, associated with a cold front. A return to dewpoints in the 60’s will help fuel stronger storms again.

Wednesday looks quiet, but slight severe chances return for Independence Day, as seen in the Colorado State severe weather outlook below. We’ll have to wait a few days to get a better idea on timing regarding these storms.

Of obvious concern are rain chances and rainfall amounts as they could impact area rivers. Below are forecasts through Friday evening from the European computer model and from the Weather Prediction Center. Hoping heavier amounts stay away from northern and northwest Iowa.
