BRADGATE, Iowa — Over the noon hour residents of the Bradgate area were working to fill sandbags to try to keep the rising flood waters at bay from the West Fork of the Des Moines River.

“Bradgate where the river levels are expected to rise up to 17 feet now instead of the 16.5 feet which was originally projected,” said Kyle Bissell, who is Humboldt County Emergency Management Director. “According to the National Weather service it is going to rise very quickly over the next 24 hours with that rise capping at about 1 a.m. in Humboldt.

To help Bradgate, sandbaggers need to report to the County Maintenance shed on Highway 3 in Humboldt.

“We want to send people to help sandbag the city of Bradgate is actually by coming to Humboldt,” said Bissell. “The reason being is this location could very soon be isolated with a bunch of water on either side, so we want make sure we have people coming to go to Humboldt to sandbag.”

The community of Humboldt has worked hard for two days to get homes and businesses sandbagged, and ready for rising water.
