Standoff underway with ‘barricaded subject’ on Des Moines’ northeast side

DES MOINES, Iowa — Multiple law enforcement agencies are engaged in a standoff with a barricaded subject in the 2900 block of E. 40th Street.

The Des Moines Police Department issued a short statement via X about the situation, which followed a pursuit, around noon. DMPD said the perimeter is secured and negotiations with the subject are ongoing.

Sgt. Paul Parizek confirmed the incident began with a pursuit involving the subject and the Iowa State Patrol. He said DMPD is supporting the ISP operation, but further details about the investigation would be released by Sgt. Alex Dinkla, the Public Information Officer for the Iowa State Patrol.

Lt. Shane Grego of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said deputies assisted in the pursuit by deploying stop sticks.
