Storms and Heavy Rain Ahead
After a quiet overnight, storm chances will begin to increase in Iowa Sunday morning. It appears an area of rain will move into the central part of the state by the middle of the day (below).
Highs Sunday will be a little cooler than Saturday after a weak cold frontal passage, and with more cloud cover and scattered precipitation.
Another area of stronger storms looks possible early Monday morning, as seen below, as a disturbance aloft moves across Iowa.
Highs will be a little warmer again on Monday.
That warmth will fuel scattered storms later in the day and into the evening. Some of those could be strong and could contain heavy rainfall.
The Storm Prediction Center has also placed the state in their Day 4 outlook, as seen below.
Highs will warm to 80 again on Tuesday (below), even after a line of possibly strong storms moves through early in the day (2nd image).
By late in the day, the combination of moisture and warm air will build fuel for stronger storms later in the evening, as seen in the following image.
Below, the European computer model’s rainfall prediction for Sunday through Tuesday evening in Iowa.
It appears, at this point, that we’ll see a break in the rainfall Wednesday through Friday, and then a return to storm chances early Saturday. However, the forecast becomes more uncertain after Thursday night.
