IN LOCAL NEWS:
• And good morning, FLOODING. The flood (and landslide!) watch that’s currently in effect will continue through this evening as heavy rains swamp low-lying areas. (Have you checked your local storm drain lately?) And just in case you’re wondering: No, all this rain we’ve been having lately still isn’t enough to reverse Oregon’s drought.
Lots of rain today & plenty of standing water on the roads. Futurecast does show an abrupt end to the rain in the Portland Metro area between 5 and 7pm #kgwweather #pdxtraffic pic.twitter.com/dFi18p3kta

• On Wednesday the public weighed in with a LOT of opinions regarding Mayor Wheeler’s plans about how the city should be spending an unexpected budget surplus of $62 million. • The superintendent who was fired without cause by the extremist Newberg School Board spoke out for the first time yesterday since his dismissal, telling furious parents and teachers to keep up the fight and continue supporting the district’s schools.
• The Oregon State Hospital is on the receiving end of a federal lawsuit that was filed on behalf of two people who were ordered to be taken in over a month ago, but still haven’t been admitted.
• Intel, Oregon’s largest employer and who also contracts for the government, instructed employees to get ready for a January 4 federally mandated vaccine deadline, or else agree to being tested twice weekly.

IN NATIONAL/WORLD NEWS:
• The UN’s climate summit is set to wrap today, and negotiators are rushing to work out the kinks in an agreement, which as expected, is causing strife when it comes to fossil fuels and emissions. Already some of the language has been softened.

• Yesterday an appeals court temporarily allowed Trump to block the Biden administration from giving congress the former presidents documents that would show what sort of shenanigans he was up to on the day of January 6 when domestic terrorists were attacking the capitol. However, the court said it’s fast-tracking the case for November 30 when they’ll issue a final decision.
