Shooting at Anaheim motel leaves 1 dead

Gunfire at a motel in Anaheim left one man dead Sunday evening, Jan. 24.

Callers reported a shooting in the parking lot of Abby’s Anaheimer Inn, at the corner of Katella Avenue and Walnut Street, Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer said. Officers responded at about 7:30 p.m. and located a man suffering from a gunshot wound

Police provided first aid before Anaheim Fire & Rescue paramedics took the patient to a hospital, Carringer said. He was pronounced dead about an hour later.

The victim’s identity was not immediately released. Carringer described him as an Orange County resident in his 40s.

No arrests had been announced in connection with the killing as of Monday afternoon. Authorities were searching for a dark-colored 2020 Chrysler Voyager minivan bearing California license plate number 8RZE565, which may have been involved in the shooting. A description of any possible suspect was not immediately available.

The shooting over the weekend is the first homicide reported in Anaheim so far this year, Carringer said.
