Coronavirus state tracker: California reported 6,893 new cases and 162 new deaths as of Aug. 19

California reported 6,893 new cases of the coronavirus, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, bringing the cumulative total since tracking began to 645,851.

There were also 162 new deaths reported, making for a total of 11,662 people who have died, according to unofficial counts from county websites.

Hospitalizations rose for the third consecutive day with 119 new patients bringing the total to 6,479.

Statewide, COVID-related hospitalizations also continued to decline Saturday. State health officials reported 37 fewer hospitalizations, with 6,327 people in hospitals statewide. That marks the 11th day straight that hospitalizations had declined.

As of Aug. 13, the state’s breakdown of cases by age is as follows:

  • 5 and younger: 2.1% (13,392)
  • 5-17: 7.8% (49,726)
  • 18-34: 35.2% (225,012)
  • 35-49: 25% (159,512)
  • 50-59: 14% (89,201)
  • 60-64: 5.1% (32,320)
  • 65-69: 3.5% (22,119)
  • 70-74: 2.4% (15,343)
  • 75-79: 1.7% (10,027)
  • 80 and older: 3.2% (20,757)

The state’s breakdown of deaths by age group is as follows:

  • 5 and younger: 0% (0)
  • 5-17: 0% (1)
  • 18-34: 1.4% (163)
  • 35-49: 5.7% (649)
  • 50-59: 10.2% (1,156)
  • 60-64: 8.2% (928)
  • 65-69: 9.9% (1,122)
  • 70-74: 11.5% (1,269)
  • 75-79: 11.4% (1,290)
  • 80 and older: 41.5% (4,6936)
