Coronavirus state tracker: 11,502 new cases, 173 new deaths on August 18

After nearly two weeks of declining hospitalizations in California, the numbers rose slightly. There were 23 new patients Monday and 28 new patients Tuesday, Aug. 18, for a total of  6,360.

The 6,360 hospitalized patients is a 16.6% decrease from 14 days ago with 30% of ICU beds available across the state.

The state’s COVID-19 dashboard shows there have been 113,240 new cases in the last 14 days.

The state’s testing positivity rate is 6.5% with 1,743,325 tests in the last 14 days.

Several counties had larger than average death tolls reported on Tuesday. Los Angeles County reported 64 new deaths and San Bernardino reported 48 new deaths accounting for 112 of the 173 deaths reported Tuesday.

There were an estimated 11,502 new cases increasing the state’s cumulative total to 639,136 on Tuesday.

These figures are preliminary and subject to change on all 58 California county health portals.
