Coronavirus: 652 new cases, 9 new deaths reported in Orange County as of July 2

The Orange County Health Care Agency  reported nine new deaths as of Thursday, July 2, increasing the total number of people in the county who have died from the coronavirus to 354.

Of the 354 deaths, 181 were listed as people in skilled nursing facilities and two were listed as homeless.

There were 652 new cases of the virus confirmed on Thursday. In the last three days, there have been 2,001 new cases reported.

The cumulative case total is now 15,065 since testing began in March. The seven-day average, from June 24, rose to 445 a day.

According to the California Department of Health, there have been 101 COVID-19 deaths in Orange County in the last 14 days.

The state agency reports 705 hospitalized patients in the last 14 days (suspected and positive) in 33 hospitals across the county as of Thursday. The state’s coronavirus-tracking dashboard also shows Orange County has at least 36% of its ICU beds still available.

The county estimates the number of recoveries from the virus was 7,862 as of Thursday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

The state’s coronavirus dashboard reported an 8.7% test positivity rate for the county.

The cumulative countywide testing total reported Monday was 248,028, with data through June 30.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 32% (112)
  • 75-84: 27% (95)
  • 65-74: 18% (62)
  • 55-64: 12% (43)
  • 45-54: 9% (31)
  • 35-44: 2% (8)
  • 25-34: 1% (3)
  • 24 and younger: 0%
