Any Advice on Making a Backyard Ice Rink?

Currently I have a sand volleyball court that is bordered by very large PVC pipes. They’re about 8″ in diameter.

I would like to transform half of the volleyball court into an ice rink. That would make the ice about 35’x32′.

Since the ice rink is only half of the volleyball court, we will need to create the fourth wall of the rink (under the volleyball net) ourselves. My current plan is to use 2x4s and keep them in place with rocks. I’d then line the area with a tarp, and fill it with water using 3 layers until the ice is about an inch thick.

Would the PVC be string enough to hold this much water? Is there a possibility of the sand being washed away if the rink melts? Any advice or tips would be much appreciated!
