LinkedIn taps AY to manage Empire State Building expansion

LinkedIn is expanding by 188,653 s/f to occupy 501,600 s/f at the Empire State Building.

Avison Young’s New York Project Management Division has been selected by LinkedIn to oversee improvements across its New York City headquarters at the Empire State Building, a massive space consisting of more than 500,000 s/f across 11 floors at the iconic Midtown Manhattan office tower.

Avison Young Principal Kirsten Beck and Senior Project Manager Robb Davidson, both based in the firm’s New York office, will head up LinkedIn’s project management team, helping to shape the continued buildout of the vertical campus after the company recently expanded its presence in the property by leasing three additional floors.

“We are thrilled to be working with LinkedIn to improve and expand their New York City headquarters. These changes will shape the future of the LinkedIn workplace for years to come,” Beck said.

“We believe our expertise in project management and construction working with our other tech and innovative clients brings a strong foundation to this project and gives LinkedIn the confidence in our abilities to manage the continued buildout of this remarkable space.”

The New York team, which was awarded the project through a national master service agreement with Avison Young’s Chicago office, will assist with creating cohesion across the 501,509 s/f vertical campus following the professional networking platform’s recent lease expansion that added floors 14, 15 and 16 to its existing space across the third floor and floors 22 through 28.

“Anticipating LinkedIn’s continued growth, we plan to use our expertise to implement changes that will unify the space across multiple floors without disruption to existing operations,” Davidson said.

“We will maximize the efficiency of the space through a range of design and technology improvements to not only maintain collaboration among employees but significantly boost it.”

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with more than 645 million users in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Launched in 2003 and headed by CEO Jeff Weiner, the company’s diversified business includes revenues from membership subscriptions, advertising sales, and recruitment solutions.

Microsoft acquired LinkedIn in 2016.
