Director of Programming Opportunity with Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio

Playhouse Square is searching for their next Director of Programming, who will be committed to advancing Playhouse Square’s mission of presenting and producing a wide variety of quality performing arts, advancing arts education and creating a destination that is a superior location for entertainment, business and residential living, thereby strengthening the economic vitality of the region.

Playhouse Square is a not-for-profit performing arts center in Cleveland, Ohio. We host over 1,000 performances and over 1 million guests each year in our 11 performing spaces, which include 5 historic theaters. We are proud to be the largest performing arts center in the nation outside of New York and are home to 6 resident companies and the largest season ticket holder base in the country.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  1. Guide the Programming Department’s annual and long-term programming goals pursuant to the organization’s mission. Achieve annual financial goals by developing and maintaining new and existing relationships with agents, managers, artists, promoters, and renters.
  2. Administer all aspects of the booking calendar for performances and events. Work with the Programming team, Special Events, Community Engagement & Education, ideastream®, and all resident companies to determine maximum efficient usage of all spaces. Approve venue usage requests and mitigate potential conflicts.
  3. Oversee all Programming (including but not limited to Broadway, presented concerts and cultural attractions, for-profit and non-profit performance rentals, and special events) from booking through settlement. Develop budgets, negotiate deal points, administer contracts, determine base and dynamic pricing strategies, manage expenses, and execute settlements.
  4. Supervise a team of Programming professionals, maintaining a culture that attracts, retains, and motivates top quality employees.
  5. Develop and maintain expenses for the annual department budget and prepare the annual budget calendar and show budgets for Finance. Provide monthly financial forecasting for all performances and events.
  6. Maximize the effectiveness of shows for the highest gain to each department throughout the organization.
  7. Represent Playhouse Square to the industry by attending appropriate conferences and meetings.
  8. General Manage shows produced or co-produced by Playhouse Square.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of ten years programming, theater operations and contract negotiations.
  2. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  3. Excellent computer and analytical skills
  4. Flexible, outgoing, people-oriented person, with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  5. Self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
  6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
