Advice needed on Tiling round our bath

So we had a leak in the kitchen roof that alerted us to problems in the bathroom which is about 19yrs old now. The floor had a vinyl sheet covering going up to the front of the bath. Under the rim of the bath the walls and floor were bare brick/floor boards. When the bath was taken out we could see the entire left wall was damp and the boards at the bottom of the wall completely rotten The builders recommended tiling floor to ceiling to minimise any future risks of leaking which we agreed to.

However, they are now recommending that we dont tile under the rim of the bath (as before) and instead have the bath slotting under the back wall tiles and sealing the tiles to the bath this way. They say doing this will be better since runoff goes straight into the bath and the seals will last ages.

The original plan was to tile everything and then run a seal round the bath and the tiled wall. We had an argument to get them to tile the floor all the way to the wall, they wanted to have it stop against the bath as before.

Im also wondering if things will be too tight if they tile it all, they said to get a 1700mm bath but wall to wall with tiles is now exactly 1700 maybe a few mm less (Im assuming we could shave some off the bath end if we need wiggle room?). Wall to wall (no tiles) is 1760. The pipes on the right wall might also make things tricky for them.

So is it a good idea to put the bath under the tile rim so runoff doesn’t get the chance to go down the wall or rest on the seals? I can see some sense in what they are saying but having the floor watertight feels better. Maybe we could do both and put one tile around the bottom of the wall behind the bath which should still leave room to slip the bath under the rim of the top tile?
