Basically a friend ended up in a bad situation, her and her puppy have been living with us for two months until they could find a place. They got the keys to a rental yesterday with her parents having the upstairs her staying in the “finished” basement. There is some concerns, she’s going to take up with the owner however to help her get by wondering what’s the best way

1: Sump pump pit is completely open with a loose piece of plywood thrown over the top, obvious concern is making it secure so the puppy can’t get in but not sure if this is supposed to be air sealed too? Going to fix the ply wood in place for now as a temp measure

1. The drainage clearout cover is in the middle of the floor, it’s been badly fitted and doesn’t sit flush (about an inch or two below surface) this is a huge tripping hazard. Again as a temp measure was going to make a wooden cover to level it off and then put a rug over

3: The natural gas fireplace has a low voltage electrical switch on the wall, however the plug wasn’t in the transformer (I’m guessing it doesn’t work) and they had ran an extension cord across the floor direct to the 120v outlet on the wall (pretty sure that’s a big old fireball waiting to happen) so un plugged it for now but it’s winter here in Canada so they’d like to have it working

4: Not really a safety issue but shoddy work the basement has been drywalled some finished some not but they didn’t add any electrical (only the sump pump feed, panel plug and the original lights) for now we’re going to get some extension cords through the ceiling and clipped up/in plastic channels so she can live down there but as a more permanent option I’ve told her to speak to the guy about getting some outlets put in (although not sure how much that conversation is going to go)
