Draft legislation to tighten governance at the South African Revenue Service will be tabled early next year, Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance heard from Sars and National Treasury on Tuesday. Treasury’s Ismail Momoniat told the committee that amendments would be considered to allow for clarification of the Tax Ombud’s role and outline procedures for both the appointment and removal of a Sars commissioner. Momoniat said the proposed legislative amendments would also include amendments to the South African Revenue Service Act and the Tax Administration Act. The process would include public comments and hearings, just as the Tax Administration Laws Amendment Bill did.
