Iowa Democrats re-elect Rep. Konfrst as Iowa House Minority Leader
DES MOINES, IOWA — On Saturday the Iowa House Democrats re-elected State Representative Jennifer Konfrst as the Iowa House Minority Leader for the upcoming 91st Iowa General Assembly.
Lawmakers are set to gavel in on Monday, January 13, 2025 to kick off the session. Rep. Konfrst is in her 4th term in the Iowa House of Representatives, she was the first woman to lead the Iowa House Democrats, and she continues now in that role.
Coming off of a lackluster election for the minority party, Leader Konfrst said that the party will still continue to fight on.
“While Tuesday’s election results were disappointing and there is a lot of uncertainty ahead, our caucus will never stop fighting for the values we share as Iowans. When the session begins in January, we’re going to work together on every issue we can to improve the lives of Iowans and put people over politics.”

There are also four new democrats joining the ranks in the Iowa House: Dan Gosa of Davenport, Rev. Rob Johnson of Des Moines, Larry McBurney of Urbandale and Aime Wichtendahl of Hiawatha.
The Iowa House Republicans just gained a super majority this last Tuesday, just reaching the threshold of 67 members out of the 100 in the chamber. What the priorities are for the majority party is still unknown, but leadership will lay out the agenda as the session draws closer.
