ServicePlus Home Warranty’s David Seruya was interviewed by Business News Ledger on the development of ServicePlus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After having been in the spotlight in recent months, David Seruya stepped out to answer a couple of questions regarding what the past year has been like for ServicePlus and how he intends to guide its development in the future.
In this interview, David Seruya talked about everything — from his introduction to the home warranty industry, which was through recommendations from a college friend, all the way to the more recent impacts on ServicePlus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Regarding the former, David Seruya stressed the importance of learning from one’s mistakes by talking about his first ever home warranty company and saying: “We stumbled several times along the way and the company collapsed on us… To keep a long story short, it was an experience that ended in failure — teaching me a lot of things that I needed to know.”
As for these lessons, the first advice he offered to other business owners was on the importance of innovation. More specifically, he said: “I had to learn early on about the importance of innovation… In the beginning, I was very careful. And though I considered myself a risk taker, it was never enough experimentation.”
Then, he continued with the following: “One has to innovate in order to grow. Even if it means taking risks sometimes. One must experiment and never fall in love with a single idea.”
These statements were in regards to the most recent direction that ServicePlus had taken. More specifically, the fact that they had to put aside many of their tried and tested business practices in order to account for the sudden shift in the demands of their customers at this time.
In David Seruya’s own words, he expressed that, if they hadn’t taken the chance to experiment and renew their business model to change with the times, then they would have surely lost to their competitors.
As for his plans for the rest of the year, David Seruya shared that ServicePlus will “continue to improve (their) services” and ended off the article by sharing his favorite quote, which is Brad Lea’s: “You’ll only regret what you don’t do.”
