Clearwater Community Sailing Center Partners with Gibbs High School Mural Club for the Winds of Change Event

(PRUnderground) June 23rd, 2022

CCSC to showcase Floating Pop & Street Art on Clearwater Beach this Summer. Clearwater Community Sailing Center has partnered with Brian McAllister, Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School & Gibbs Mural Club Advisor, and his students who are local Pop & Street artists. The students are showcasing their artistic talents while promoting values of; inclusion and promoting respect and appreciation for oneself, others, and society in our beautiful natural coastal environment.

“It’s a privilege to have the artistic talents of the students at Gibbs High School showcasing their talent and connecting sailing, art, and inclusion in our greater Clearwater community,” said Jeffrey Parke, CCSC Board President, “Having this moving artwork being utilized by the scholarship recipients out on the water and enjoying the Tampa Bay Area makes this an enriching event for all, participants, attendees, and viewers.”

The Gibbs High School students are painting 11 Opti Sails that will be used to connect art, inclusion, and sailing. CCSC will also use the Opti boats with the 11 Pop & Street Sail Art, to create a floating art boat parade around Clearwater to display the students’ works on July 9th at 10 am and practice throughout the summer.

“The student artist at Gibbs high school under the guidance of their instructor Brian McAllister has done an amazing job of depicting the various aspects of the marine environment that sailing operates harmoniously within.” said Patrick Winkleman, CCSC Board Member, “The students’ artistic talent really shows in the quality and attention to detail. Their work will be the highlight of our event.”

The theme for this year is the low impact sailing has on the local natural marine environment.

The student’s designs will be on display at Clearwater Community Sailing Center for the Winds of Change Fundraiser on July 9th and some will be raffled as fundraisers to support 2022- 2023 local Student Sailing Camperships.

About 2022 Winds of Change

The Winds of Change event is an annual fundraiser for Clearwater Community Sailing Center on July 9, 2022. This is an opportunity to connect sailing, art, and inclusion in the greater Clearwater community, via the Clearwater Community Sailing Center (CCSC) water footprint. The vision is to create ripples of change, by igniting the passion for sailing with at-risk local youth. The Winds of Change will scholarship several kids through a summer camp at CCSC and programs throughout the year to get kids out on the water to enjoy the Tampa Bay Area at its best. Sailing teaches the fundamentals of stewardship for kids. On the first day of sailing, kids learn how to rig a boat and set off for their first adventure. This Risk / Reward program can benefit at-risk kids by giving them an outlet, responsibility, and the ability to set their own course and reach that destination. These skills can be utilized in all areas of a kid’s life. Offering these children an opportunity to experience the outdoors while learning a life skill on many levels.
