I can’t get the pilot light on my fireplace to light.

Im trying to turn the pilot light on in my fireplace. My home is very old, built around 1940. I turned off the pilot light in my fireplace last spring, and now I cant get it to start. I turned the red gas valve (top left in the pictures) to in line with the pipe, which usually means open. I turned the “main burner switch” to on, and I rotated the pilot light knob. Idk where the pilot light knob is supposed to be turned to though, there doesnt seem to be any indication arrow to point “on” towards. Then I pressed in the pilot light lighter switch every second or so. I was seeing sparks but no light. What’s wrong? I attached pictures to the comments.

Edit: Thanks guys. Holding the knob in for a bit then pressing ignite worked!
