Come for the live music, stay for a COVID-19 vaccine: Stratford festival returns after pandemic

STRATFORD — Main Street Saturday will be a one-stop shop of everything from live music to stunt bike demonstrations to free COVID-19 vaccines.

The Rotary Club of Stratford’s annual — after a one-year pandemic hiatus — Main Street Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will take place, appropriately, on Main Street, from Stratford Center to Stratford Avenue.

Other highlights include a roaming railroad, mini golf, inflatables, a magician/balloon artist and a plethora of vendors offering food, drinks, games, arts and crafts, jewelry and other novelties.

“We have at this point 170 vendors,” said event organizer Stephanie Philips on Thursday, noting that 60 percent of them are nonprofits and artisans.

Unique this year — a free walk-up vaccination clinic run by Griffin Hospital, which will offer doses of the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine.

Extra space will be left between vendor booths; unvaccinated guests are asked to wear a mask and socially distance. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the event.

Rotarians who helped organize the event include Joe Dolan, Pat Patusky, John Corb, and Jack Constantinople, Philips said.

She said the club recently pledged $10,000 to Stratford’s Bethlehem House, which provides transitional housing for families who need it, to finance a roof replacement on one of the organization’s homes.

“The club members all get involved in this and we do this to raise funds for our charitable projects in town,” Philips said, thanking town officials for their cooperation in putting on the event.
