Coronavirus patient at hospital in Bridgeport since March released

BRIDGEPORT — A man who was hospitalized with COVID-19 since the beginning of March was released from the hospital Thursday to return home, hospital officials said.

The 21-year-old man was hospitalized at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, a Hartford HealthCare medical facility.

He was the first confirmed positive patient admitted to the city hospital, officials said.

As the man was greeted by his family for the first time in-person since being hospitalized, the St. Vincent’s Medical Center intensive care unit staff cheered him on.

A video of his release showed him embracing a woman, with another woman in the background holding a sign that read “Welcome back Rodney.”

As the man walks out of the hospital, hospital workers he passed by patted him on the back, blew him kisses, cheered, applauded and some even handed him flowers.

Video of the man’s release from the hospital can be viewed here.
