Cat scratch pad / post made of wood and cardboard
This is my very first woodworking project and I know it might look “over-engineered”, but I wanted to get “acquainted” with the tools. The project took me about 8 hours, spread along several week-ends, but now, if I would have to do it again, I think I can make it in half of that time. List of materials: – 2 pine boards (20 mm x 60 mm x 2000 mm), for the bottom part of the box – 2 pine boards (20 mm x 120 mm x 2000 mm), for the frame of the box – 18 5×30 wood screws, for the bottom pieces – 12 45×35 wood screws, for the frame – a big cardboard box, sorry, I can’t be more precise than that 🙂 List of tools I used: – hand clamp – ruler – tape rule – cutting knife – electric pendulum saw – electric manual router – electric planer – cordless electric screwdriver – electric sander – 10 mm x 20 mm router bit The dimensions of the box (interior): 400 mm x 580 mm Bottom pieces length: 420 mm The groove to accommodate the bottom pieces was made at 10 mm from the bottom part of the frame, on the long edges of the frame, it was 10 mm deep and was made with the router bit listed above (10 mm diameter) The “fins” for the bottom part were made with the same router bit, 5 mm deep and having the width of 10 mm. More details about this project in the “making of” video: https://youtu.be/9zzdiObn1Sk If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment. Thank you for your time! submitted by /u/ITinkerWithTings |
